Hurricane Ike
Has anyone followed news of Hurrican Ike? A colossal Hurricane Ike menaced the darkened Texas coast early Sat, ensuring a sleepless night for thousands who huddled and waited to find out if a gamble to face the storm head on could cost them their lives. Wind-whipped waves surged over a 17-foot seawall in Galveston and filled streets with waist-high water. Homes were flooding, hundreds of thousands were without power and there was fear hurricane-force winds could shatter the sparkling skyscrapers that define the skyline of American's fourth-largest city. Rescue crews worried daybreak would bring a nightmare: Thousands who defied evacuation orders and became trapped in submerged communities. What do you think of this matter? What should the goverment do to help out the victims of the hurrican?

Well I have a friend who I was in the Marines with who is from there and your right it is a packed city and can only imagine what he's going through, I've tried calling him but haven't gotten a response yet. I think the government should do whatever they can for the people who listened and got out when had the evacuation.
i have a feeling they will take care of this one just like the took care of all the other ones that have happened. i know of a few people living down there from myspace... they all didnt seem to worried which suprised the hell out of me. it could be that their just putting up a good face to keep up beat about it all. but anywyas im sure the gov and other people will pull through and help out!

I haven't been really following the news on hurrican Ike, but I know if I was in that stuation I would be scared and thats why I feel bad for all the people who have to deal with this and I wish them all the best.
I havent really been following the knews but if i new that a hurricane was coming i would the the first one to head for the hills
I do understand why people would not want to leave. Over the summer I went to Belize and we did a project with the Red Cross. We were asked to go fomr door to door doing hurricane survey. We asked pepole if they would evacuate and 50% of them said they wouldn't because they could not stand the fact of leaving their houses.
I know the not only will the government help with the relief but thousands of volunteers are down there helping already. People are very wiling to help and I tihnk the government will do all they can to help.

These hurricanes are devastating especially, with the current Fiascos taking place with today's Financial Failures and Economic disturbance, I'm concerned to see what they will fiscally do.
i think our country is strong enouph to get through catastrophes like this. they will need eveyones help and our country will back them and help them out
Well first of all let me say that this is a very sad thing that has happened. Let me also say that the Government can only do so much here, they did give people very early warnings that this was going to happen. I understand that not everyone had transportation but they gave them almost a months warning to get out. Theres only so much they can do...
i really hate when people go aganist the order of the gorvement thinking that its not going to be that powerfull of a stormand thinking they will be ok right here in there house and then when the strom hits they are there questioning there decission to say home and thenn the next day they put other people lives in harm by making search and recure crew go out and find them
I think that natures natural disasters can be the worst sometimes because it leaves people wondering why something so terrible could happen to them and it also leaves them worried looking at the past natural disasters and how they were taken care of. Hopefully Ike wont do as much damage as some of the other natural disasters!
Natural diasters are very hard to deal with when you are the one suffering from it. We need give the victims of the hurrican our support at this time of need. The federal government should give some money to Teas to help them rebuild thier cities destroyed by the hurrican. It is going to a good cause.
There are those who chose to leave when asked, and those who chose to stay. There should be some form of involvement from the govt., but i believe more need to be looked at, new means to fix transportation, methods to prevent flooding, rather than just handing out money.
I think the gov should help and do as much as they can for the people that were hit by Ike. It is a time for the Bush adm. to show us if they haved learned anything.
I have relatives in sarasota florida, they are always lucky when it comes to hurricanes becuase the storm always misses them by only miles. They are very thankful to this very day. I could not imagine being in a hurricane and loosing everything in one night. The government should do whatever it takes to help people survive and prepare for future storms.
I think this hurricane will be handled in a way better way than katrina the united states knows what to expect now and we will not have the same mistakes happen again..well i hope
